Heart of the Ozarks Professional & Business Women was chartered in 2006 and its short history has seen many changes. With only thirteen charter members to begin, the organization is now over 70 strong and growing. The mission of PBW is to enhance women’s lives professionally, politically and personally. The Chapter is comprised of dedicated volunteers and accomplishes an array of tasks through committee participation.
The organization sponsors two annual events, one in the spring: “The Get to Work” Career Fair, matching employers and employees as well as providing educational workshops. The other event, held in the fall, is TheWomen’s Expo which offers businesses and services of interest to women - a day of learning, relaxation and fun.
Proceeds from these events fund scholarships for all four Lake Area schools. Graduating senior females are awarded scholarships annually in May, and non-traditional scholarships are awarded to women going back to further their education or learn a skill or trade. In addition, donations in excess of $2000 are given during the month of December to other local charities benefitting women.
The chapter meets monthly the firstWednesday of the month, alternating between lunch and dinner meetings. Each meeting features a speaker addressing a topic of interest to women, focusing on everything from health and business issues to car care and community issues. |
